July 10th was not much of an Aloha Friday when the Star Bulletin reported that “the state increased its waiting-lounge fee at the Big Isle airport by 371 percent.” See the article at http://www.starbulletin.com/business/20090710_Hilo_flights_likely_to_cost_more.html. By Saturday, go! Airlines had added $20 per one way ticket from Hilo to Honolulu (not the other way, since only Hilo’s lounge is affected).
The governor’s East Hawai`i liaison Marc Miranda returned my call on Friday, saying that the calculations in the article may not be accurate.
Do you find this outrageous? Our legislators need to know what you think about this major hit for travelers in and out of Hilo Airport.

GREAT news in the Hawaii Tribune Herald this morning that the Hilo Airport lounge fee is NOT going up $18.43 a person. It will be increased less than 10 cents a ticket, going from $3.91 to $4.04.
